Can You Drink Pasteurised Egg Whites? A Label-First Guide

Hands checking the label on an EGG RAW liquid egg-white bottle

In short: Use liquid egg whites uncooked only when the current product label explicitly allows that use and you follow its preparation directions. The word ‘pasteurised’ alone is not a universal drinking instruction for every egg white product.

Check the specific bottle

Look for the product’s suitability statement, use-by date, refrigeration temperature and after-opening limit. A bottle labelled for cooking may have different directions from one explicitly intended for uncooked preparation.

The EGG RAW packaging shown in these guides says ‘Drink · Cook · Bake’. Follow the complete directions on the bottle you receive; do not generalise from a photograph to every product or to an old, mishandled bottle.

Pasteurised whites and raw shell whites are different

FDA guidance recommends pasteurised eggs or egg products for preparations served raw or undercooked. That does not make ordinary raw shell egg whites an interchangeable smoothie ingredient.

Pasteurisation is a food-safety treatment. It does not mean the product is sterile or can remain unrefrigerated. Correct storage and clean preparation still matter.

Before an uncooked preparation

  • Confirm that the label permits your intended use.
  • Check the bottle’s date and opening history.
  • Use clean measuring equipment and a clean blender or glass.
  • Return the bottle to the fridge promptly.
  • Prepare only what you will use and follow the recipe and pack directions.

If you are uncertain about the bottle’s condition or instructions, choose a cooked preparation or contact customer care. Anyone with individual food-safety or health concerns should seek suitable professional advice.

You can simply cook them

You do not need to drink whites to include them in your routine. A masala scramble, omelette, wrap or cooked pancake is another convenient way to use the ingredient. Choose the preparation you enjoy rather than assuming an uncooked version offers superior fitness results.

For a measured portion, the current 500 ml label lists 50 g protein. A 150 ml pour supplies about 15 g from the whites, whatever approved preparation you choose. A finished recipe’s total depends on all its ingredients.

Frequently asked questions

Does pasteurisation make drinking risk-free?

No food treatment removes the need for correct handling. Follow the current pack’s suitability and storage directions.

Does blending make raw shell egg whites safe?

No. A blender is not a pasteurisation or cooking step. Do not substitute untreated raw shell whites in an uncooked recipe.
